Fun, Food and Faith

They all wait for You to give them their food in due season (Psalm 104:27).
Even preparing food together can offer opportunities to teach orphan children about our faithful Lord and His ways. The children like cooking very much as part of our activities. The last time, they made a fruit salad, and this time they wanted to make a cooked Russian salad called Oliviye (meat, green peas, pickles, eggs, potatoes, mayonnaise and sour cream). Everyone did his or her utmost, even the boys! They wanted to taste it so much, but armed themselves with patience until it was all done. We were glad that they remembered to pray. We can see that some take their prayers to heart, even though others are laughing and trying to incite others.
We showed the children a cartoon that taught them how to behave, and not to imitate those who behave badly. A boy named Valery told us that he liked the lesson where a boy didn’t want the “stain” of bad actions to stick to him. As a remembrance, we made some bracelets with colorful ribbons, so that in different situations the children could look at them and remember that they are precious to God. They can remember that they can model Him and not imitate the bad actions of others.
Each time we visit the orphanage, we come away with new impressions from the children, and our hearts break for them. Because of their young age and upbringing, some of the teenagers fall into sinful behavior and they think it’s normal. But there are others that we are reaching, and they are doing their best to do right. We are thankful to the Lord for all of you who help us reach these children for Christ. Please keep praying for us!
