SGA Partners Assist Tajik Churches in Flood Tragedy
Local leaders in the former Soviet nation of Tajikistan sought help from churches in response to disastrous spring floods that killed more than 30 people, left more than 200 hospitalized, and more still missing. Mudflows damaged more than 2,000 homes and destroyed 12 bridges in Kulyob and four other cities. One of the hardest hit areas was the village of Kulyob. The mayor of the village asked an SGA-sponsored church planter living in the area for help in obtaining mattresses, clothing, hygiene items and other urgently needed aid. Our mission forwarded funds to help the churches respond to the needs of their people quickly — in the compassion of Christ and for the sake of the Gospel.
SGA’s Eric Mock and Andrew Semenchuk were in Tajikistan when the flooding struck, and we praise God for the opportunity to encourage and support the churches in their ministry. Please pray that God will open up many opportunities for the Gospel in the midst of this great tragedy.
