SGA Ukraine Update

Ukraine’s New President Takes Office

Many news media organizations from around the world were on hand for today’s inauguration of Ukraine’s new president, Petro Poroshenko. Yesterday, Mr. Poroshenko was present during the annual World War II D-Day memorial event in France’s Normandy region. He spoke briefly with Russian president Vladimir Putin, German chancellor Angela Merkel, and U.S. president Barack Obama.

While this event was taking place, the BBC and other media reported that fighting still raged in eastern Ukraine, with government forces reportedly launching a tank attack near separatist-held Sloviansk. This vividly illustrates that the crisis is not over, and that the need to support Ukrainian churches is more important than ever.

You can help through SGA’s Crisis Evangelism Fund. Click here to find out more. Now that Mr. Poroshenko has taken office, pray with us that peace will soon be re-established in Ukraine. Pray that the freedom of Ukrainian churches to worship and lovingly share the Gospel will be maintained. Above all, pray for SGA-sponsored missionary pastors and their churches as they serve the Lord as . . . ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20).
