Ukraine Update: Ministry Amid Heartbreaking Violence

Not long ago, we shared a report from Pastor Vladimir, an SGA-sponsored missionary pastor who serves in eastern Ukraine where violence continues to rage. Over the weekend, we received a brief update from Vladimir, who says the violence has been intense, but Christ’s love cannot be stopped . . .

Vladimir, his fellow missionaries, and evangelical churches in eastern Ukraine are living through very difficult days. Please intercede for them in prayer as they continue to minister Christ's love.

After I returned home from the Union of Evangelical Christians-Baptists Congress in Kiev, the week that followed was very stressful for many. We had very intense shelling by the militants. Several buildings were destroyed and 13 people were killed. For 24 hours, there was no electricity in our city. No water, no telephone, and no communication.

There was major small arms fire and shelling of the airport, as well as of local factories. The local people are terrified because they don’t know where the next shell will fall. Although the shooting was targeted at the areas near factories, shrapnel from the exploded shells managed to reach some residential areas. People are in a panic because a shell can fall anywhere. Please keep praying for us, and that peace will return to Ukraine!

Through your faithful support of SGA’s Crisis Evangelism Fund, we were able to help Vladimir purchase food for the most needy families. Another five families were assisted with relocation, and medical assistance was provided for five other people who have serious health needs. One of those receiving medical assistance is a student at the SGA-sponsored Irpen Biblical Seminary near Kiev.

Thank you so much for your ongoing prayers and generosity. If you would like to know more about the Crisis Evangelism Fund or to make a gift, please click here.
