As We Celebrate July 4—Pray for Peace and Freedom in Ukraine

SGA Prayer Alert

Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves for God (1 Peter 2:16).

Partners in the Gospel,

I’m writing today to wish you and your loved ones a most blessed Independence Day holiday. As we celebrate the wonderful freedom granted to us by God in the United States, I am mindful of our brothers and sisters in Ukraine as the future of their nation remains in doubt. Violence continues to rage in the eastern regions, refugees are still fleeing for safer regions in the west, and the evangelical churches we serve are striving to serve faithfully as God’s caring ambassadors in their troubled land.

We recently returned from Ukraine, where access to the cities is controlled by checkpoints and protected by dug-in soldiers, sandbag walls, and tanks. There your prayers and your faithful gifts to our Crisis Evangelism Fund are helping to accomplish much. Together we are assisting courageous pastors who are remaining in the war zones to minister to their people and to the frightened unchurched. SGA-sponsored missionary pastors are reaching out to their church families and to many desperate unbelieving families.

In the Vinnitsa region of central Ukraine loving churches are housing Muslim Tatar refugee families from the Crimean region, and providing them with food and medical care. The Gospel is advancing and the love of Christ is being shown to people in desperate need. I can’t thank you enough!

Please keep interceding in prayer for our Ukrainian brothers and sisters in this crisis. Pray for the violence to end and for peace to be quickly restored. And above all, pray that the precious freedom for the Gospel that Ukraine has enjoyed for the past 25 years will continue unabated. Thank you again, and may the Lord bless you abundantly.

For our Savior
Bob Provost
