A Biblical Challenge for 2010 and Beyond

Nearly two decades have gone by since the Soviet breakup. Today, many believe that Russia has largely been reached with the Gospel. But here’s the real truth. Thousands of towns and villages across Russia’s 11 time zones still have no clear Gospel witness — some 90 percent of the communities …

• No Bible-preaching churches
• No Christian bookstores
• No missionaries

In September 2009, SGA president Dr. Bob Provost announced a new emphasis called “Challenge 75 — Reaching the “Forgotten Russia.” It’s a new effort to jump-start a second wave of church planting. Our goal is to sponsor and equip 75 dedicated Russian missionaries for two years as they minister in these least-reached regions of Russia. But even that is only a beginning, as church leaders in the CIS report that 600 faithful men are ready to reach their regions for Christ, but need sponsors.

The Gospel is Central to Everything

We praise God that the Gospel has been heard in most major population centers. But nine years into the 21^st Century, a new era is beginning and the door is closing. The urgency is greater than ever to reach thousands of smaller cities, towns and rural villages yet unreached across vast Russia.

The primary means of equipping of these men is training them to preach and teach the Word of God. There will also be a major emphasis on youth and children’s ministry, and evangelism — the proclamation of the Gospel — is central to it all.

Our heart for Challenge 75, and indeed for all of SGA’s ministries, is to see the Gospel go forth with even greater vigor in 2010 and beyond.
