Ministry in a High Security Prison

Over a thousand prisoners and guards attended an evangelistic music concert in a maximum security prison in southwest Russia. Boris Berezhnoi, leader of the music group Blagovestie, writes:
Local brothers had been serving there for a long time already. They have a prayer room there where believers come to study the Holy Scriptures. A Christian man who spent 28 years in prison leads this ministry. Loudspeakers were prepared in the yard. Over 1,000 prisoners and officers listened as we played.
The Holy Spirit acted in a special way! The Gospel message reached the hearts of the people. Many began to think about how to escape from the destructive cycle of their former lives and how to begin a new life. Over 50 people repented and invited Christ to come into their hearts as their personal Savior!

Please pray for the local churches in this region as they seek to support these many young Christians serving out their sentences in the prison. Prison ministry is a powerful force in Russian churches — many who come out of such circumstances go on to become great evangelists, used mightily of the Lord in advancing the truth of the Gospel. In fact, many of the most passionate and effective people now ministering in the lands of Russia found freedom from the burden of sin in prison.
