Ministry Report 2007: Children’s Outreaches Enjoy Significant Growth
Churches across North America generously gave offerings for the Immanuel’s Child Christmas ministry in 2006-2007. The previous Christmas, 40 mother churches and main locations in the CIS were enabled to hold Immanuel’s Child outreaches.
This past Christmas, a total of 96 mother churches and locations participated, reaching a total of 13,970 children in nine countries — Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
Also this past year, follow-up ministries were held during Easter in Belarus and Uzbekistan. All children who had participated in Immanuel’s Child were invited. In Belarus, a total of 19 churches and 1,215 children took part. Some 154 new children began attending Sunday schools after Immanuel’s Child, and 90 more new children began attending after the Easter ministry.
SGA helped provide Russian-language copies of A Faith to Grow On by Dr. John MacArthur, in addition to providing chocolate treats.
Orphans Reborn
SGA expanded the Orphans Reborn ministry, starting up in four new orphanages in Belarus, and one in Belgorod, Russia. Two new ministries for older orphan children were also begun in the cities of Karaganda and Almaty, Kazakhstan.
In 2007, Orphans Reborn ministries were operating in 148 orphanages and children’s homes across the CIS. The annual Christmas for Orphans ministry helped provide funds to purchase gifts for 6,377 children, and our teams and their local churches participated beyond that to reach more than 14,000 orphan children in seven countries — Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Summer Camps
Summer camp sponsorship continued to be a major emphasis of the evangelical churches SGA serves, with some churches using the camp ministry as a follow-up of Immanuel’s Child. We were able to help more than 10,000 children attend camp in 2007, up from more than 6,000 in 2006.
