In the story below, Dominika, SGA’s newest Storyteller, shares with us about the city in Poland where she and her husband live and serve. . She also shares her personal story of ministry alongside her husband, in a place where people greatly need to hear the Gospel.
We are excited to hear more from Dominika in the days ahead as she gathers more testimonies of God’s grace throughout the regions of her country. Please pray for she and her husband Samuel, who is an SGA-supported missionary pastor, as they serve side by side for the sake of the Gospel.
Hello! I am Dominika and I’m a new SGA Storyteller from Poland. I would like to introduce myself and my family. I am a pastor’s wife, and we have three children: Basia is seven, Hania is five, and the youngest, Tadeusz, is almost three. Two years ago, my husband Samuel and I decided to move from Warsaw, the capital city of Poland, to Bydgoszcz—a much smaller city in northwestern Poland. In Warsaw we spent almost ten years of our common life. We met there, our children were born there, and we started our ministry there in [a church] in Warsaw. We loved that place and the people we served, but we knew that God was calling us to another one.
Bydgoszcz is the eighth largest city in Poland, with a population of 350 000. There are less than 1,000 evangelical believers (and that’s including charismatics). So, 99.7 percent of the city needs to be reached with the Gospel. These are people who don’t know the truth of God, and have probably never heard about salvation through faith in Jesus Christ alone. It is also a city where my parents live. They have looked after their disabled daughter for many years so we wanted to be closer to them to be able to help them in their older age. My sister had an accident almost 20 years ago when she was 18, and she’s been in a vegetative coma state from this time. It’s really hard to take care of her but God is sovereign in His grace, and we believe that His will is done and we want to assist my parents as we can.
Our church counts about 30 members at this point, but there are a lot of newcomers who participate in the Sunday services. We also cooperate with a Ukrainian group with whom we use the same building to organize our ministry. In the beginning, the Ukrainian group was very small, but after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, many people arrived at Bydgoszcz and joined the church. This month we are going to celebrate the official registration of our church and we are organizing a special service with lots of guests to give thanks to the Lord and pray for our ministry here. Thanks to the Gdnask Regional Association of the Polish Baptist Union, we purchased a building that will in the future be our chapel and ministry center. It’s a very interesting place because it is over 100 years old. We are looking forward to seeing what God has planned for all of us in this new building.
