Ukraine Relief
Editor’s Note: An SGA Storyteller in Ukraine provides the following testimony.

In one moment, one’s life can be drastically changed. In these days of war, people of Ukraine go to sleep praying that they will just make it through the night. For many, the war has taken loved ones, taken homes, and even taken limbs. Through all of these things, people’s circumstances have changed overnight. People are forced to move forward without their loved ones. They must find a new place to call home. And many more must learn to move forward without the mobility that they once had

However, in these bitterly cold days of winter, men and women are finding themselves able to move on because of the warmth of God and trusting in His care. They also find warmth in the love and care they receive through the local churches engaged in the SGA-supported Heat and Hope ministry. Although life may change in a moment’s notice, we can trust that God will provide the hope needed to move forward.

Please pray for the people of Ukraine as we are in the coldest part of the year. Pray that not only will they be warmed by a warm fire or blanket, but also by the warmth of our Father’s mercy and love.

From SGA Storyteller Karolina . . .

Serhiy is an emigrant from Pokrovsk. He once had a quiet life: work, church, and offering service to people. The war took it all away in a moment. When it was especially difficult in the city, he did not hide—he helped others. He carried water, visited the needy, and encouraged those who despaired. His path was simple and bold: to do good where it is scary.

One day he was rushing home by bicycle. It seemed that it would be an ordinary road, a few minutes and the warmth of his native walls at home. But at that moment, he was hit by an invader’s FPV drone. Everything has changed. Several injuries. Amputation of the hand. Months of struggle in the hospital. Pain, powerlessness, an unknown tomorrow. But Serhiy survived. And not just the survivor— he continued to live.

Today he is without a hand, but with faith. Without a home, but with warmth in his heart. The mountains of firewood given to him seem like a trifle. But for him, it’s not just fuel. It’s a sign he’s not forgotten. A sign that God and people are next to him. Firewood became warmth in the house and warmth in the heart.

Serhiy just says, “I’m alive. God saved me. That’s why I still have a way.”
