Single moms are some of the strongest people here on this planet! In most cases, these women never expected to raise children without a husband by their side. But often the men leave, and the women are left on their own to take care of the children to whom they have given birth. A man can walk away more easily. A woman’s heart is normally connected in a different way. She fights for her existence and for her children. A mother finds strength somewhere deeper than most. And that strength goes even further when she leans on the strength of the Lord.
When the weariness becomes overwhelming , Alexandra reaches out for the hand of God. As you’ll read in her story below as shared in an SGA-supported pastor’s ministry report she sincerely reaches out to God. Between working outside the home to provide, and inside the home to lovingly care for her children, Alexandra is tired.
Please pray for her physical strength and also pray for her spiritual strength so that she grows even closer and more reliant on the One who provides all that she needs. Read more of her story as shared by the pastor . . .
Two years ago in the fall, we decided to hold some children’s evangelistic ministries in our church. After these evangelistic services, a young mother with two children began to come to church regularly. Her name is Alexandra. She brought her children to Sunday school. She enjoys the services and Bible classes for adults to study the Bible. Although she is not yet a member of the church, she actively gives out invitations to evangelistic services and offers her help wherever she is needed. We pray for her, so that the Lord will open her mouth in faith and repentance, and then be baptized. She has developed a desire to go to meetings for those who want to be baptized. Praise God for His work in her life!
Alexandra’s character is very lively. She always tries to smile. She always comes to church with her children, a girl of four and a boy of six. The children are always very modestly dressed. As we talked with her, it was not obvious at first, that her life was not easy. But then it became more evident when we observed that when she came to church, she did not want to go home. And sometimes she would walk down the street in tears near the church with her children because her uncle lives at home—he drinks and makes trouble. As it turned out, she is raising her children alone without a father. Alexandra’s husband turned out to be a criminal and was sent to prison for a long time. From prison, he informed Alexandra that he will not return to her. He didn’t give any reasons.
Since the children are still small, they need the care of their mother, who still has to work to provide for the family. It so happened that she got married very early and gave birth to her children in order to leave her dysfunctional family before she had time to get good training for work. So now she finds herself in such a situation that she really needs help. She cannot find a well-paying job. She got a job as a cleaner to have time to take care of the children. Everything would be all right, but the situation was aggravated by the fact that her relatives, in whose apartment she lives, did not pay the rent for a long time due to their drunkenness. And it turned out that of all those living there, she was the only one working. And from her small salary the state started to take away half of it to pay the debt for the rent. And it’s a very large sum.
I must say that Alexandra’s character is strong. During these two years, she has never complained or asked for anything. Her problem became known accidentally from a conversation we had when she just wanted to cry. She said she was tired. She simply does not have the strength to live any longer, and she does not know what to do in this situation. Her children, growing up in this environment, are also having a hard time. The older boy, apparently having experienced some psychological trauma, is afraid of people, withdrawn, does not speak well. He needs special attention and help.
We will continue to help this unhappy young woman. She sincerely reaches out to God and to the church. She fights for her existence and for her children. Just as a person, she tries to do everything responsibly.
