As Eric Mock, SGA’s Senior Vice President of Ministry Operations, traveled through Ukraine this spring, he witnessed a reality that is difficult to comprehend—entire communities forced to live under constant threat. What he saw raises an important question for all of us: Why do we continue to serve and support churches in places like this?
A Glimpse Near the Front Lines
In regions impacted by ongoing conflict, daily life has been driven underground. Schools, offices, and gathering places have moved below the surface as families seek shelter from relentless danger.
Yet even in these conditions, SGA-supported churches continue to serve—bringing both practical help and the lasting hope found only in Jesus Christ. In that setting, Eric asked a local pastor a simple question: “Why do you stay and serve here?”
A Pastor’s Answer
Pastor Dima, who serves faithfully in Ukraine, ministers daily among people facing uncertainty, loss, and ongoing danger. Yet his calling is clear: Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5:16).
For Dima, this is not just a verse—it is a mission lived out in real time.
He understands that every act of care—every visit, every word of encouragement, every expression of compassion—is part of how God is working through His people. SGA-supported churches are present, serving as the hands and feet of Christ in places where hope can feel distant.
Grateful for Your Partnership
Even in hardship, Pastor Dima expresses heartfelt gratitude: “We are very grateful to you for your support, for your prayers, for your help. May the Lord bless you!”
Through your prayers and generous support, churches across Ukraine are continuing to: share the hope of the Gospel, provide vital aid like groceries, hygiene items, and care, and reach hurting people with God’s Word. Together, this is how God is working—through His church—to bring light into the darkness.
In a time of great uncertainty, God is bringing help, healing, and hope to the people of Ukraine through SGA-supported pastors, churches, a seminary, and SGA-supported Compassion Ministry. Be a part of God’s incredible work with your generosity and prayer support.
Your gift of compassion helps struggling people with emergency aid that generally includes Scripture materials, food, and hygiene supplies.
