Pastor Alexander and his congregants have provided SGA-sponsored Compassion Ministry food and aid packages in their community. And now they see a growing interest in the Good News of Jesus Christ. He reports about Svetlana and her family: “Her two older children were in Vacation Bible School. Svetlana prays and trusts the Lord and “constantly reads the Gospel and children’s literature we gave to her children.”
Svetlana and her family are very grateful for the Compassion Ministry packages and spiritual support they have received — especially as her husband is undergoing treatment for cancer and will soon have stomach surgery. “We pray and help large families who receive a small salary,” shares Pastor Alexander.
Belarus: Pray with Us in Trusting God for the Harvest
THE COUNTRY: The territory that is now Belarus has also been sometimes known in history as “White Russia.” After seven decades as a part of the USSR, Belarus attained its independence in 1991. It has retained closer political and economic ties to Russia than have any of the other former Soviet republics. Belarus and Russia signed a treaty on a two-state union on 8 December 1999 envisioning greater political and economic integration. Full implementation has yet to take place. The country’s first and only directly elected president, Alexander Lukashenko, was elected in 1994.
PRAY WITH US: Your works are great, O Lord! We praise you for equipping SGA-sponsored churches in Belarus and pray we will be faithful to what you have called each of us to do — whether or not we are on the frontlines. May we not grow weary in obedience and follow your leading to provide physical and spiritual help and change more lives.
